Car tuning tips for traveling road

Article by Sutton Perry

As pilots follow the best way to avoid the danger which may arise during the flight due to any mechanical problem, by checking the aircraft before every takeoff, car drivers should also make it a habit to get satisfied of all the mechanical aspects of the vehicle before they rush to the highway to begin with the journey. Tuning up your car for a by road journey may take a considerable amount of time but once you are done with all tuning matter, chances of accidents could be reduced to its minimum level hence guaranteeing a safe and sound journey.

Following are the components and systems of your car that need to be examined before you start your journey by road:
Primary step to avoid an accident while traveling at high speed is to put brakes therefore in order to prevent skidding ensure that the brakes of your car are in proper order and work well. Apart from the casual checking of the brakes notice carefully if while breaking you hear an unusual squealing or grinding, or if your brake pedal is hard to press, do mention it to the mechanic, because for optimum performance of breaks repairs may be required.

Malfunctioning of the tires could cause you to lose control of your car therefore make sure that the tires of your car are not worn, bare or damaged. Keep the tire pressure up to the correct “PSI” level mentioned over the tire it self. Secondly examine the condition of the tires and the nature and duration of the journey accordingly to decide if the present tires can accompany you faithfully or is it the right time to replace them. If you are to travel over the snow preferably go for snow tires. Snow tires will improve your car handling while you are driving over the ice or snow. Be sure that you have installed four identical tires, same in size as well as tread and manufactured by a similar manufacturer.

Overheating of your car can cause complete breakdown. To avoid overheating you need to keep an eye on a number of components of your car’s cooling system to make sure that those components are up to the desired level and working in satisfactory condition. Reassure that all of your car belts and hoses are working smoothly; all fluid levels are up to the mark and anti-coolant is present with a proper concentration. Ask the mechanic to check the cooling fan, radiator as well as thermostat of your car to reduce a far-fetched risk of overheating.

When you are to travel in winters make sure that your car batteries are fully charged because you need to have completely charged battery while you are to start your car in a cold weather. Scrap away corrosion from posts and cables connections. Clean all the surfaces and also re-tight all the connection to and from the battery. Keep an eye on the fluid levels, the battery posts, voltage regulator as well as alternator or generator. Recharge all weak batteries and if a battery is worn-out completely it is better to replace it with a new one.

You may have to travel after sunsets if you are traveling at a long route so, don’t forget to check all the lights of your car. Make sure that all lights of your vehicle including front light as well as the backlight along with the indicators are in proper working order. Also assure that the headlights are aimed properly so that during the harsh weather conditions which happen to occur in winters, like snowstorm, tornados and freezing rain, it will be convenient for you to look at the road and drive carefully.

Tuning Up Your Brain

Article by Debra Burdick, LCSW, BCIA-EEG

Imagine a world where you could place electrodes on your head, send your brainwaves to a computer, and control a video game without using your hands, just by changing your brainwaves. Picture a world where you could teach your brain to perform better. Perhaps you could improve your IQ, concentrate better, or sleep better. Maybe you could organize better at work, close more sales, get better grades, or be more productive. Maybe you could spiff up your memory that you have noticed is slipping lately. Visualize getting rid of that chronic depression or those nasty panic attacks and eliminating those medications you hate to take.

Too hard to believe? Believe it!

We have learned more about the brain in the last 10-15 years than we ever knew before. This is mostly due to advanced imaging techniques, computer technology, and on-going research about how the brain works. Research that began in the late 1960′s and early 1970′s at UCLA and NASA and is continuing today at universities and medical centers around the world is confirming that a form of biofeedback on brainwaves called Neurofeedback effectively teaches the brain to regulate itself better.

Neurofeedback gives information to the person about what their brainwaves are doing (usually via a video game) and rewards them (the rocket flies, they hear beeps, etc) when they change their brainwaves the way that they are being asked to. This process is called Operant Conditioning which is a well known learning strategy. The original research was done with cats that were rewarded with milk and chicken broth when they increased a certain brainwave. (The human brain apparently will do anything for a ‘beep’…)

Research is also teaching us what normal brain waves patterns should look like. Brain mapping technology called a Quantitative Electroencephalograph (QEEG) takes a classic EEG (a look at the electrical function) and compares brainwave data to a database of normal brains. This process can pinpoint sites on the brain that are not functioning normally. Using this technology we can now identify certain learning disabilities, mood disorders, Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and more, and pinpoint areas of the brain that are not communicating properly with other areas of the brain. This information can then be used to ‘train’ these abnormal areas of the brain using Neurofeedback to make them more normal and therefore improve function.

Recent research by V.J. Monastra et al has demonstrated that the ratio of two brain waves (theta/beta) on the top of the head (CZ) can be used to predict ADHD with 90% accuracy. Studies show that training the brain at these sites and at these frequencies works as well as, or better than the standard stimulant medication so frequently prescribed for ADHD, and without the side effects.

Leslie Prichep at NYU has used the QEEG to characterize brains affected by Alzheimer’s Disease. One Neurofeedback study on healthy adults showed improved cognitive function and memory. We are beginning to use Neurofeedback to help slow down the cognitive decline, personality changes, and behavioral changes associated with Alzheimer’s.

Because the brain regulates so many things, training the brain can have an impact on a large variety of seemingly unrelated disorders. Neurofeedback has been shown to be effective for depression, anxiety, ADHD, sleep disorders, Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), panic attacks, seizures, learning disabilities, Obsessive/Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD), Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), cognitive function, memory, Fibromyalgia, chronic pain, migraines, anger, Bi-Polar disorder, Autism, stress, organization and planning. Neurofeedback is approved by the FDA for stress management. And studies show that adding Neurofeedback to psychotherapy and AA meetings decreases relapse rates in alcoholism from 80% to 25%. Wow!

Neurofeedback appears to correct underlying problems in brain regulation rather than just treating the symptoms. Frank Duffy, MD at Boston Children’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School stated “If any medication had demonstrated such a wide spectrum of efficacy [as biofeedback], it would be universally accepted and widely used.” The January 2005 edition of the ‘Child and Adolescent Clinics of North America” professional journal stated that Neurofeedback meets their criteria for efficacy for ADHD, depression, anxiety (including OCD, PTSD, phobias, generalized anxiety), learning disabilities, and seizures.

Neurofeedback is being used around the world to help people improve their brain function. Often it is used to improve Peak Performance as opposed to treating any disorder. It is helping astronauts, professional ball teams, athletes, performers, executives, children, students, and people from all professions and all ages.

Neurofeedback treatment consists of an initial evaluation plus twenty to forty 45 minute sessions. These sessions are usually scheduled at least twice a week at first and then may be reduced to once a week when symptoms have improved. Treatment must continue until the positive changes ‘stick’, and then can be discontinued. Follow up studies have shown that if the treatment continues until symptom improvements are lasting for at least a month, then the results will persist. Some studies have shown that symptoms continue to improve even after treatment has ended. Certain medications can often be reduced or eliminated after doing Neurofeedback as the brain learns to regulate itself.

Neurofeedback is not currently covered by most health insurance companies but sometimes psychotherapists incorporate it into their regular therapy sessions which are usually covered. Sessions can cost anywhere from to 5 each with discounts for prepaid packages. Often, people have tried everything else before they find out about Neurofeedback.

Neurofeedback can change a person’s life in invaluable and global ways. It is the wave of the future available now. We regularly get our cars tuned up. Certainly every brain could benefit from a tune up as well.

How Tuning Can Transform Your Boring Diesel Car

Article by Daniel Wiggs

When you buy a diesel car, you’re probably thinking of its good points. You know you’re getting a reliable car that is built to last and economical to drive. On the other hand, diesel vehicles have their share of drawbacks. Your car is probably a bit noisy. You have to put up with slow throttle response and boring performance. But wait — here’s some good news for you. Diesel tuning can transform your reliable but stodgy car into something a lot more exciting and pleasurable to drive.

The easiest way to perform diesel tuning on modern fuel injection vehicles is to modify the software in the engine control unit, or ECU. The ECU manages every aspect of engine operation, processing signals from various sensors and telling the fuel injection system what to do. The ECU’s software programmes, or maps, control fuel delivery and timing so that the engine runs efficiently at any RPM and emissions stay within acceptable levels. The early generation of engine control units stored their maps on a removable computer chip. Newer ECUs have built-in maps that can be accessed via the On Board Diagnostic port.

Diesel tuning involves rewriting the ECU maps to release a diesel engine’s true potential. Dozens of settings that affect the performance of your car are modified in the remapping process. The goal of ECU remapping is to achieve the optimum power curve for vehicle performance and fuel economy. At the same time, safety parameters originally programmed into the ECU must be respected to avoid any damage to the engine or drive train.

Diesel engines by their very nature have a lot of room for performance enhancement. With a high compression ratio of more than 20:1, cylinders in diesel engines contain more air than needed for normal fuel combustion. If you remap the settings in the ECU to increase fuel injection pressure and make better use of the available air, you can easily boost engine power and torque.

Correctly done, diesel tuning by remapping the ECU will make the engine run more efficiently, producing more power and torque. Take, for example, a late-model Audi with a 2.0 litre TDi engine and original power output of 140 BHP. Remapping the ECU can potentially boost power to 170 BHP and increase torque by 75 Nm. Of course, power gains will vary, depending on the model and the engine specs. However, a 35% increase in overall performance is feasible for many vehicles.

After tuning your diesel car, you will enjoy a smoother, quieter ride with more immediate throttle response and peppier acceleration. The engine will offer more consistent power delivery with fewer gear changes and less throttle needed for any type of driving. The engine lag and annoying flat spots that are so characteristic of diesel cars will disappear.

The extra power and torque has practical uses, too. Stop-and-go driving in the city will require fewer gear changes and less braking and accelerating, which translates into fuel savings. High mileage drivers will also see better fuel economy from more efficient fuel combustion at higher travel speeds. If you want to tow a holiday caravan or some other heavy load, your newly tuned car will have the extra torque it needs to keep up with traffic and pull more safely.

Whoever you choose to tune your diesel car should possess the latest ECU tuning equipment and the right skills. Don’t even think about trusting your car to one of the cheap service providers. Technology in new vehicles changes so rapidly that companies must continually update their equipment and software to keep pace, and you can bet that costs money. Get your car tuned by a true professional and you will have no regrets afterwards.

If you’re frustrated by the personality flaws in your diesel car, diesel tuning can quickly boost its power and performance, making the car more fun to drive and saving you money on fuel. With so many advantages, it’s no wonder that an ECU remap is a popular vehicle modification for diesel owners.

How to Make a Vehicle Your Own With Car Tuning

Article by Daniel Wiggs

For most drivers, a tuned car is one that has been serviced according to manufacturer specs and runs acceptably well. But many car enthusiasts want something more than a normally tuned car. To them, car tuning refers to modifications that enhance vehicle performance and drivability. There are several ways you can improve your car’s performance, but in most cases you should start with tuning the engine so that it delivers more power.

Optimising the fuel combustion process is the key to getting more horsepower and torque from your engine. Back when cars were built with carburettor engines, tuning an engine was a mechanical procedure. You had to adjust the spark timing on a mechanical advance until you found the fuel/air mix that produced the most complete burn cycle and resulted in the most efficient fuel combustion.

But these days, virtually all new vehicles have fuel injection engines that are electronically controlled by the ECU (engine control unit). This small computer is central to the fuel combustion process. The software in the ECU controls all aspects of fuel delivery and timing, so modifying the software is the logical place to start if you’re trying to enhance engine performance.

When you are tuning the engine in a pre-2000 model year car, the only way to modify the ECU software is to replace the EPROM chip in the ECU. However, newer vehicles have an ECU with built-in software and no removable chip. For these vehicles, ECU reprogramming — or ECU remapping, as it’s more commonly called — can be done through the On Board Diagnostic port without handling the delicate engine components.

Vehicle manufacturers are usually conservative in the way they tune their cars. They program the ECU to limit engine performance to something well below what the vehicle is built to handle. This means that modern engines hold a surprising amount of untapped potential that is just waiting to be released. Remapping the ECU is an effective and safe car tuning method when done properly by a skilled professional — and the words “skilled professional” cannot be overemphasised!

Turbo diesel cars are the best candidates for ECU remapping. The benefits can be impressive: power gains of up to 35%, fuel savings of up to 20%. In driving terms this means faster throttle response, better acceleration, fewer gear changes, smoother driving, and extra money in your pocket. ECU remapping can also be worthwhile for normally aspirated and petrol-fueled cars, but the gains vary and it’s best to weigh the benefits on a case-by-case basis.

Whenever you make performance enhancements to your car, you should advise your insurer of the change. If you fail to do this and you get into a crash, your insurance could be invalid — and that’s a risk you don’t want to take. Will you have to pay more to insure the car after the modification? Not necessarily. Some companies will insure your modified vehicle for the same premium as the unmodified version. If you’re very concerned about expense, talk to your agent about the possibility of a premium increase before undertaking any modifications.

In the grand scheme of things, car tuning can be a great investment. The sheer pleasure of driving a fully powered, responsive vehicle is worth the cost, many would agree. What’s more, car tuning can produce significant fuel savings over the life of your car. You know, some drivers justify the cost this way: you can spend a few hundred quid to remap the ECU in your current car, or you can spend thousands of pounds extra to buy a new vehicle. Which option would you prefer?

Car tuning is a popular way to customize a vehicle to your driving style and your performance expectations. Whether you’re craving faster acceleration and more pull from your car, or you simply want better fuel economy, you can usually get exactly what you want.

Car Tuning Tips May Be More Abundant Than You Imagined

Article by Robart Alex

At times these days it may seem like it’s impossible to “not know” something. No matter what the subject matter is; there’s either a professional somewhere versed in the subject, an online webpage discussing the topic in depth, or a long forgotten instruction booklet reminding the world we can still read from a book.

Car tuning tips are absolutely no different in this regard and they can be found in all the same fashions. Now you know the information is out there somewhere, but knowing where to look can be a problem for some. Tuning your vehicle can be difficult at times and you don’t want to do anything on a whim. If you’re ever unsure about anything in the slightest, it’s best to seek further advice on the topic. Now, you can use the above-three mentioned sources for engine tuning tips as well.

The Professional

As with any topic you may not be well informed about, the usual best choice is to seek out a professional on the subject. For car tuning tips you’ll want a mechanic who has spent their fair share of years working through the industry. They’ve learned the ropes and understand how to keep up with the latest updates and upgrades alike.

Like all other technology; cars become more and more advanced and the methods for tuning them become increasingly difficult. If you do find a professional make sure he is up-to-date on the latest changes and advancements in how things operate and are joined. Even if he can’t help as much with “newer” methods, the basic guidance is sure not to have changed much over the years.

Check Out the Web

An increasingly popular option in the internet age is finding webpages or forums for specific engine tuning tips. You can usually find a plethora of tips or problems archived here and if you can’t, feel free to create your own topic on the subject such as “How to Properly Install Induction Kits” In time you should receive at least attempts on the answer or something to help push you in the right direction. There are of course sites which are ran or moderated by mechanical experts who can lend their own answers and opinions on subjects. This way you’ll get top-dollar advice without having to ship out top-dollar.

Find the Instruction Booklet

Some say this is the most definite solution with any problem. The car’s were created and in their shadow was born the instruction manual. Usually lost and forgotten in the garage; it still has its uses. If you have the time on your hands to sift through thousands and thousands of pages in search for your issue, this would be your best bet. You will often spend a lot more time searching for more specific answers this way, but you can rest assured they are all factual and inserted by the original manufacturers of the vehicle.

In the end there may be times when you simply need to take your vehicle to a professional mechanic and allow him to tackle the job himself. When this day comes just accept it and try to find the best possible deal available out there.

Car Tuning Changes a Car from the Ordinary to the Extraordinary

Article by sturat

Car tuning has been more than a hobby but a way of life for some people. For those of us who have no idea what tuned cars are, think of the movie “Fast and the Furious”. The idea is to take a regular car and modify it to make it something special. It can be simply changing parts to have better fuel economy. Though many tuned cars are so changed they barely resemble the car they started out as.

The idea of car tuning is to improve performance and handling of the car to suit a specific driving style. This may involve installing new turbochargers. Modifying a car’s engine cooling unit is common as well. Though some people have ripped out the entire engine and installed a more powerful engine. Changing up the suspension will change how a car handles. Often springs, shock absorbers, and sway bars will be modified. Using shorter springs give the car a lower look but also lowers the center of gravity. With shorter it is important to also change to shorter internals to stop from bottoming out. Going with stiffer shock absorbers improves the dynamic weight shifting when cornering. Stiffer sway bard improves handling response.

However car tuning modifications don’t end with just improving the performance and handling of a car. Just watch the show “Pimp my Ride” to see what can be done to a car. They tuned cars that should not have even been on the road and created high performance works of art. Let’s say you have an Audi you want to tune. What is involved in Audi tuning?

It is going to depend on what you want done. An Audi is a popular car to tune. Audi tuning to get a good power range can be done quickly and at a lower cost than some other cars. Depending on the year of your Audi parts are usually quick and easy to acquire. When tuning your Audi you will want to work on the engine and suspension for a better ride. However there is nothing stopping you from tuning the body, interior and even the audio system to create your dream car. Audi tuning can involve how it runs to how it looks and everything in between.

Information About Car Tuning

Car tuning not only improves your vehicle’s life span but also improves its overall performance and prevents any operational problems from arising in future.

It is not everyday that you purchase a car. So when you do you should take care of its up keep and follow regular maintenance regime to keep it working for a long time. Unless the car engine is properly tuned it will affect the performance and ruin your driving experience. The more you delay your car’s tuning the worse its condition will get.

Car tuning must be done once every year and includes replacing some components of the engine as part of the preventive maintenance. Damage to any of these components can lead to a decline in not only the performance of the engine but its overall life as well.

The most important things to check while tuning your car are the air filters, oils and plugs. You can monitor the oil condition yourself as well using a dip stick however it is better to go to a service centre or car dealer for changing it. It is recommended to change the oil at least every 3 months. Unlike oil some car components can be delayed until the annual car check up and these are explained below.

Air filter’s cleanliness is very important to keep the air flowing to rest of the car’s components. Dirty filter increases the proportion of fuel in the air fuel mixture in comparison to air. This rich concoction clogs the air flowing to most of the car components and eventually they jam and stop working. Next thing in line is the spark plugs. Platinum plugs have a longer life and therefore they do not have to be monitored as regularly as the traditional spark plugs. In any case when inspecting the spark plugs you must not ignore the plug wires.

In addition to spark plugs tuning may also require changing the distributor cap, rotor, PVC valve and oxygen sensor. The newer cars lack few of these components which only makes tuning a lot easier. These are all part of the basic tune up however when you take your car for an annual checkup you can also have additional components inspected for instance breaks, clutch, level of all different fluids and oils and the air conditioning system.

Going through the shop’s or owner’s manual gives you an idea of which components must essentially be addressed during a car tune up. Make sure you take the services of only reliable service providers for tuning your vehicle.
